nurserying: classic day.
The day Sloane's crib arrived was amazing. I had been waiting to own one since I started working in the industry. The Oeuf Classic Crib has been a long-time favorite of mine, and now it's actually in my baby's room. We picked it up at the store and alas, the Prius never ceases to amaze us.
The Oeuf Classic Crib is the one that started it all. A company out of Park Slope, Brooklyn, I have had the pleasure to meet Michael, the founder. His passion for modern design equals his strive to do right by the environment. I was SO excited to take a little bit of Oeuf into the nursery.
{image SUPER cheesy-i know.}
I've learned through work that mattresses are seriously the most important nursery purchase you make. It's all about the oxygen flow. Nook is the latest and greatest technology on the market. Non-toxic, dual-firm-I could go on for days. Bottom line-it's healthy and safe. Enter baby gear nerd overflow.
Thanks for building it, Gabe.
and six months later-Sloane loves it.

my mom series: Introduction.
one of the very few things in life that i can truly do, on any given day, is write. my dear friend nikki has been after me for years to write a book. maybe this is a small step in that direction. but mostly, it's a platform for me to gift my daughter, post after post. i also hope for her to value and admire my small talents in hopes of someday pursuing her own grand ones.
enter a writing prompt. the relationship i imagine with my daughter is very specific. one of the main components is for her to truly know me. when i was a few months pregnant, walking around town with fingers crossed and a very hopeful heart, i came across this little gem of a book at frances-(more on that place later!) this pint-sized journal is filled with questions the fictional child asks her mother in order to chronicle her life. this blog post series will take me on a trip down memory lane and provide sloane will a meaningful lens into where i've been-and where i'm going.
because i love her, and she loves me. yep, that onesie is in spanish. #cubanjew

a few of our favorite things: balance sitter.
over here on cambridge avenue, these first few months have been like a jigsaw puzzle. we've tried this, that and the other thing to see what fits where and when. sloane is pretty particular about what she (mommy) likes, so here's a series on what we actually use in high rotation around here.
i knew at the "point of registry" that the baby bjorn balance sitter was at the top of the list when it came to safety and style. i had no idea how much she would absolutely love it-from the time she was only a few weeks old. this was a fabulous gift from the amazing friemarks-thank you, thank you! the idea is that you use your motion (foot, hand, harvey's paw) to create a soothing bouncing motion. eventually, she will learn to propel it herself. i'm not big on leaving her in there for too long, but she definitely actually craves the motion it creates-far more than the other bouncer we have. she is a really easy-going baby but definitely has her moments. i can't think of a time that this didn't soothe her.
all babies are different-but sloane puts this at the top of her list as her favorite spot to chill out in and watch gator games. yesterday i was playing with her on my lap-gabe drew my attention to the fact that he was tapping it with his foot-sans baby. cute or pathetic? cute, says the new mom.
ready, set, blog.
what are these blogs on those interwebs i kept hearing about? surely there isn't a place for this girl, a Jew from south florida living in the desert with her Cuban husband, baby Sloane, and one-eyed dachsund. how will I stand out, how can I get readers other than 1/20th of my facebook friends? what do i have to say that is different than every other well-educated, under-employed, thirty-something out there who can click a mouse on her macbook pro? this all leads to my overwhelming apprehension of starting this blog.
i've been staring at this blogger template literally for months. i've had other domain names for years. why is today any different than the countless times i've sat at my lovely, decorator book-filled workspace willing myself to write-just WRITE-that first post? i'm really not sure. we've gotten into a routine over here on cambridge ave and honestly, today was pretty damn routine.
cheers to a blog written from the soul half the time and the materialistic coveteur all the time, curated in my "perfectly imperfect" home and edited to reflect the best of the new grammar set that has become so familiar to us all in this online community. salud to a blog written while i execute a new multi-tasking: bouncing baby Sloane, refreshing pinterest and shopbop on google Chrome, listening to sadly age appropriate Mumford and Jack Johnson, and just type-type-typing.
mazel tov to the thought that if I combine my mad writing skillz with the tiny bit of entrepreneurship i have in me, at the very least i can get ten people i've never met "in real life" to read this. now if you excuse me, i have to go put that mini-goal on a price tag looking piece of paper, modge-podge it with glitter and stick it with washi tape to my inspiration board-then promptly instragram it with hashtag #cute, sharing it on my twitter feed. THEN, ladies and gentleMAN (thanks for reading,GABE!), i can call myself a blogger.
